Information for guests

Palermo photo tour:

But for now, arrive in peace. Because although Palermo often seems loud and lively, the most important word is "tranquillo". This means as much as "take it easy". Surely a good principle for a few relaxing days in Palermo.

Our table of contents helps you to find the topics relevant for you. For better clarity, we have divided the apartment according to the premises, in addition to general topics. - If something is missing, please let us know. Feedback

Amenities and necessities

Here is an overview of everything that awaits you:

In our accommodation we offer the following:

Location

And now to the location of our cozy vacation apartment, the "Casa Vacanze". It is located in Via delle Pergole 87, corner of Via Giovanni Mira. Here is the link to google maps: Palazzo Vetrano

You'll be amazed at how centrally located it is. Between the historic Porta Sant'Agata and the Chiesa del Carmine Maggiore you can experience Palermo's history up close. And the train station is just a walk away. You are in the middle of it, instead of just being there!

To help you discover the city off the beaten path, we've put together some sights, useful facts and a few tips in our mobile city map. The small streets of the old town of Palermo are often confusing. So that you can still find your way around perfectly, you can simply call up your personal city guide via the QR code in the kitchen.

For better visibility, we have shown all points of interest in purple.

Under the "tabs" above the map, the individual subject areas can be shown or hidden, split or displayed as a full screen.

Attention: This map is intended for private use only. We cannot guarantee the information contained in the map. This applies in particular to the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the map. The use of the map is therefore at your own risk.

Parking facilities

Free public parking is only 80 meters away at Porta S. Agatha and therefore outside the ZTL.
Attention: Via delle Pergole is already part of the "zona traffico limitato" (ZTL) of the old town.

Zona Traffico Limitato - ZTL

Because above all, you can do one thing in Palermo. It's a great place to slow down and make a contribution to the environment. The historic heart of Palermo has been a traffic-calmed zone (Zona traffico limitato | ZTL) since 2016 and is therefore closed to car traffic. So you can stroll and stroll undisturbed in the old town.

If you want to enter the ZTL by car, pay attention to the signs, traffic lights and cameras. On the signs you will find the closing times. These are different in winter than in summer and vary depending on the day of the week. On Sundays there is no ZTL from 6.00 - 0.00. Then you can drive in. You can also tell by the traffic light colors red or green whether entry is allowed or not. Should you ever accidentally drive into the ZTL, you can subsequently buy a ticket in any tabacchi and theoretically upload in the app Palermo. However, this app did not work for us with a German cell phone number.

This ZTL is valid approx. Monday to Thursday from 08:00 to 20:00 | Friday from 8:00 to 00:00 | Saturday from 00:00 to 06:00 and from 23:00 to 00:00 | Sunday from 00:00 to 06:00. All information without guarantee.

Check-in & Check-out

Check-in time is between 16:00 to 20:00. In addition, a late check-in is offered from 20:00. For this a handling fee of 30,- € will be charged.

Check-out time is until 10:00 am in the morning. Please use the mobile number: +39 3803905386 to arrange check-in.

Keychain

You received a bunch of keys at the handover. To keep everything clear, the keys are sorted in order and by traffic light colors. So that none is lost, they are connected with a small sealed steel cable.

Sustainable travel: Power switch, helps to avoid unnecessary power consumption in the vacation home too.

Front door key (Green)

The front door is connected to an electric strike. To open the door most easily, pull it slightly outward when unlocking it. When you leave the building, you will find a power button to the left of the front door. This unlocks the door from the inside. It is best to press the door briefly and then open it. It would be great if you make sure that the door is closed behind you. Thank you very much!

Terrace key (Yellow)

This key opens the door between the hallway and the terrace. If this door is always locked during the night and when leaving the apartment, this will increase your personal safety. Palermo is the safest city in Italy, but it is still a big city.

Window shutter

This relatively large key has no color marking. Its distinctive angular shape is self-explanatory. The closing operation on this door is done in the opposite direction (as is often the case in Italy).

Apartment door (Red)

When locking the apartment door, push the handle all the way up. He then allows the door to lock.

Power central switch

To the left of the patio door of the large bedroom you will find the central switch for power and light in all rooms. This is switched with the small, hexagonal VIMAR key. The key can only be removed when the key position is set to - 0 - off. Should you ever look for your key, you will probably find it here. This switch not only helps to save the environment, but also serves as a key board.

Door openings - spare key

These are also expensive in Palermo. To save you and us unnecessary effort and costs, it is best to check before leaving the apartment whether everything is locked and how you carry the key ring safely. A small snap shackle helps to secure it additionally if necessary. If something should happen, contact solemar sicilia first.

Light Switches & Sockets

The apartment is equipped with common, Italian switches and sockets. Although a bit narrower than you are used to from home, the operation is as usual. On the other hand, one or the other LED is a bit unusual. The LED lighting is known for its durability, as well as for its energy savings. However, if one of the bulbs needs to be replaced, please let us know. To provide a cozy lighting, the lighting is partially dimmable.

If you want to work during your stay, there is an indoor or outdoor workstation, internet access, Wi-Fi, power outlets with USB ports in all rooms and universal power outlets.

Internet & WLAN

Always connected to the world - free Wi-Fi is available throughout the apartment. Even if you break the circuit, you can still use the Internet. To make access easier for you, we offer the following QR codes.

QR Codes

Next to the refrigerator you will discover the QR codes for your free Wi-Fi access to the Internet, our guest information and your mobile, digital city map. For reasons of sustainability, we have deliberately dispensed with a classic analog guest folder. This allows us to add innovations so that the site is always up to date for our guests. We are happy about every tip concerning the digital city map. Gladly also with current photos.

Enjoy the convenience and comfort of a digital experience while we do our part to protect the environment. Explore the city with the digital map, share your experiences in the guestbook, and be online whenever you want.

Welcome to your Palermo vacation!

Atrium terrace

"If you want to enjoy the day, you should greet the sun on a terrace." - Unknown

Our atrium terrace is a true paradise of relaxation and recreation. Here you will find sun loungers, a sun sail, comfortable lounge chairs and even two hammocks! In addition, you will find dining tables and chairs to dine in the open air.

Whether you're enjoying the sun or taking a little midday siesta, you can feel completely at home here. And don't worry, every now and then you can hear the chanting of the market barkers or music from the nearby Ballarò market. But at night, Ballarò is considered the quietest part of the old town - perfect for relaxing in peace.

Regarding the terrace, we have a small request for you: our plants love not only a little love, but especially water. It would be great if you could treat them to a portion of water on a regular basis. With the garden hose this is done quickly. After all, we want everything to stay nice and green and alive. Thanks a million!

If you feel like cooking or grilling outside, we have a portable cooktop in the kitchen for you. The electric grill is located in the large bedroom under the locker.

"A terrace is a piece of heaven descending to earth." - Nathan Phillips

Safety Notice:

Our cozy hammocks, are certified by their manufacturer with an impressive load limit of 200 kilos. We invite you to enjoy these relaxing oases of peace. However, please note that the use of the hammocks is at your own responsibility. We would like to point out that we do not assume any liability. Your comfort and safety are important to us, hence this warning.

But before you read on, how about a cup of coffee or tea in the hammock?

Coffee Or Tea

The Italians may be known for their good coffee, but not necessarily for sustainability. That's why a capsule coffee machine is part of the basic equipment of every vacation home. We Germans have had our capsule era, too. Looking at coffee from a sustainability perspective can be a challenge. Be carefree, we have provided a selection of coffee capsules for you. For supplies, you can go to the Nespresso®️ boutique in Palermo. You can also find Nespresso®️-compatible coffee capsules at LIDL and various coffee shops in Palermo, among others. Ideally, you have already brought compostable capsules from home. You can find them e.g. at pot black. Delicious and environmentally friendly.

If you prefer an alternative, we recommend a cup of tea. We have already provided a small selection for you. Alternatively, you can use an electric kettle and a flute kettle.

I like tea and yoga, but I don't do yoga. (Moby, US singer)

Or how about a traditional coffee preparation à la Nonna, i.e. grandmother? For this, you have a hand grinder, a milk frother and two Bialetti coffee pots in different sizes at your disposal. The handling is simple and the result simply delicious.

"Bialetti coffee pot - A time machine for the perfect coffee enjoyment." - Unknown

Bialetti Moka Express:

Just five steps to perfect coffee enjoyment:

1. fill water into the lower tank of the stove can, but not through the pressure relief valve.

Insert the sieve and fill it to the brim with medium-fine coffee powder, smoothing but not pressing it down.

Place the upper part of the stove jug on the lower part and tighten it.

Heat at medium temperature on the stove top until a gurgling sound is heard.

Remove the pot from the stove and enjoy the coffee!

Now you can brew your own traditional coffee like a true coffee master and look forward to an enjoyable time. Cheers!

Kitchen living

Well, have you already prepared a coffee or tea? Then you're already a pro at using our Bosch induction cooktop. Congratulations, you've mastered the first challenge! If you have any questions about using the Bosch induction cooktop, you'll find the right tips under the same heading. Our cozy eat-in kitchen is equipped with high-quality Bosch appliances, including an oven, washing machine, and dishwasher. You can find the corresponding user manuals below, under the item of the same name.

And not to forget, a variety of kitchen utensils and spices are ready for your culinary creations. We have tried to avoid plastic as much as possible, not only for sustainability reasons, but also for a cozy atmosphere. Cutlery, glasses and porcelain are carefully coordinated. Cutting boards, chef's knives and many cooking utensils are made of wood and are happy to be lovingly hand washed instead of being put in the dishwasher. In the metal cabinet next to the oven you will find a kitchen grater, kitchen scales, colander and other small items.

"The secret to good cooking lies in the right ingredients and the love of cooking." - Unknown

By the way, you'll find the cutlery at the very top left of the cooking area. In the upper of the two visible drawers is another cutlery pull-out. In addition to the cutlery, you'll also find a bottle and can opener, pizza cutter, scissors, whisk, peeler, sweetener, nutmeg grater, garlic press, grill tongs, pastry brush and dough scraper. We've thought of everything! Or haven't we? Then please let us know.

Just below the cutlery drawer you'll find ceramic plates and bowls for your delicious creations. And in the lower drawer you will find various pots. Pans and baking paper can be found directly in the drawer below the oven. It would be great if you repurchase it if you run out Thank you!

Proud To Share:

Happiness is the only thing that doubles when you share it. If you still have some long-lasting food or spices when you leave the apartment, you are welcome to share them. You are sure to make someone happy. Please dispose of perishable food promptly or, even better, eat it up. Bon appetite!

Please check promptly if everything is present. If something is missing or broken, please inform us by e-mail. We are happy to help!

Bedroom

Welcome to the two bedrooms, where you can slumber on comfortable XL double beds with extra-long mattresses of 2.20 and 2.00 meters. Towels, bed linen, soap and toilet paper are already provided for you. Here it's all about comfort!

"A good bed is a prerequisite for a deep sleep." - Benjamin Franklin

With this in mind, we wish you a deep sleep and many beautiful dreams.

For a quick and clear sorting of clothes, our locker has proven itself. You will see how convenient it is to have everything at hand in no time instead of living out of a suitcase. In the small bedroom there are additional clothes rails, while in the larger bedroom there are practical wall hooks.

By the way, you enter the apartment through the larger of the two bedrooms. But you already knew that. The shutters, which provide blackout, can only be opened from the inside in the small bedroom. In the kitchen and bathroom there are additional shutters for shade.

The window in the large bedroom is darkened by a blind. If necessary, you can shade the skylight via an additional pleated blind. The telescopic rod needed for this should be found in the master bedroom next to the locker. You can also use it to open and close the skylights.

In the larger of the two bedrooms you'll find a classic doctor's desk. The typewriters that stand there serve more of a decorative purpose and have a few years under their belt.

One of these Olivetti models even made it to MOMA, the Museum of Modern Art in New York. A true design classic. Let's preserve them as they are. Thank you!

In the smaller room, in addition to the locker, a chest of drawers awaits you. In the upper part you will also find your Smart TV.

Entertainment & More

"Entertainment is the art of giving people what they want before they know they want it." - Steve Jobs

Entertainment is taken care of! Enjoy the smart TV with streaming services like prime video - NETFLIX, YouTube, appleTV, Disney, Zattoo. You can watch them via your personal account. Image transfer via screen mirroring to the TV is also possible.

If you prefer to dive into the world of books, you will also find reading material, some travel guides about Sicily and Palermo, as well as several illustrated books. For a common game evening, there are also board games available. In the bathroom you will even find a Bluetooth speaker, so you can enjoy your favorite music even in the shower.

Everything too boring? Then get out of the apartment and into the city. Because in Palermo you can experience a variety of fun activities that make this city so famous - from rousing street festivals and traditional music performances to breathtaking theater performances and lively art exhibitions. Immerse yourself in the vibrant entertainment of this charming city and let its unique energy sweep you away.

Hallway

In the hallway you will find a typical Sicilian wooden bench with a chest - a piece of Palermo for you! Here you will also find cushions that you can use on the terrace. So that they last long in spite of the sun, it would be great if you put them back here after use. Thank you very much!

Bathroom

The bathroom is equipped with a shower, bidet, hairdryer and cleaning products. Next to the towel radiator there is a wooden ladder for drying towels and bath towels.

"I've had the best singing moments of my life in the shower or at karaoke." - Beyoncé

Don't forget the Bluetooth box. Here you can have both, singing in the shower and karaoke.

Security

We want to make sure you feel completely comfortable and safe, and we have good news for you: You have already made the most important contribution by choosing Palermo as your destination. Because Palermo is considered the safest city in Italy. Of course, this does not mean that there is no crime here at all. As a big city, Palermo unfortunately attracts pickpockets as well as tourists in the summer. For this reason, we recommend that you follow the usual security measures.

In addition, we offer you a wide range of amenities and safety measures:

Your safety is close to our hearts. Camera surveillance is installed in the hallway and outside the front door to keep a watchful eye on what's going on. The apartment is equipped with an Urmet video intercom system. You decide who should stay outside.

In your room you will find a Burg Wächter hotel safe, so you can keep your valuables safe. It offers increased protection against break-in and drilling, as well as enough space for cash, important travel documents and much more. The lock of the safe is electronic. Due to this, opening and closing is very convenient.

For protection from danger we have installed smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Fire extinguishers, as well as fire blanket are also available. So everything should be safe.

In case of injuries, a first aid kit is at your disposal.

The central power switch is not only for sustainability, but also gives you the peace of mind that you don't have to worry about whether you left the stove or the iron on. And don't worry, everything will still be cooled in the refrigerator.

Safety precautions: Where can I find what?

The first aid kit is in an easily recognizable red box with a white cross. You will find it in the large bedroom on the locker.

The fire extinguisher hangs on a hook directly to the right of it, next to the radiator. In an emergency, simply pull it off and extinguish it.

The fire blanket is located in the kitchen, next to the kitchen counter on the left side. The fire blanket is in the top drawer of the right element of the light blue doctor's cabinet. This is also equipped with a hook. If you want, you can also hang it directly on the cabinet, as you can see in the picture.

Water & Electricity

Both the electricity and water networks in Palermo are exceptionally stable. Especially for a city of the south.

The tap water is not only tested according to EU guidelines at regular intervals. We find the taste exceptionally good. That's why we use it as drinking water. So we save you and us the unnecessary carrying of bottles. The hint that it is valuable drinking water, which should be saved, we can save or?

PS: Don't forget your water bottle! Because in Palermo it gets hot from time to time. Then you are grateful not to have to think long, where you can drink something. If it gets even hotter, we recommend a delicious Granita al Limone, which you can find everywhere in Palermo. Delicious and hearty refreshing.

Sustainable travel also means avoiding waste. Plastic-free thanks to clean drinking water.

Nevertheless, it can of course occasionally happen that water or electricity is temporarily unavailable.

Circuit breaker / Fuses

If you feel that there is no power available, we kindly recommend you to first briefly check if the central power switch next to the patio door is turned on.

Next check, take a look at the fuse box behind the kitchen door. Finally, you can check the main fuse on the electricity meter. You can find it in the technical room, next to the staircase on the first floor. The apartment is fused with 6kW instead of the usual 3kW. But if you run the air conditioner and the hairdryer or the toaster, oven, etc. at the same time, you'll get a lot of power.

Are all circuit breakers / fuses up?

Average / water damage

In case of emergency, water damage inside the apartment, we ask you to turn off the main tap. No. 6 shut off immediately and inform Solemar Sicilia. The main tap is located in the stairwell, one landing above the entrance door to the terrace, just behind the metal flap. Solemar Sicilia is available in case of emergency to assist you in such situations.

We would like to emphasize that such situations practically never happen. But life is what happens when you plan otherwise. Therefore, we still inform about the appropriate measures to make your stay as pleasant and safe as possible.

Emergency numbers emergency

In all EU countries, the Euro emergency number 112 can be called from a cell phone or landline. You don't have to dial an area code! If you have no reception on your cell phone: Switch it off and on again, enter the emergency number 112 instead of the PIN. You will then be automatically redirected to another network.

National emergency numbers Italy

Here are the most important:

113 Police (Polizia di stato; traffic police)

114 Emergency situations of children/adolescents (Emergenza infanzia).

115 Fire department (Vigili del fuoco)

118 Emergency physician, rescue service (Emergenza sanitaria)

Order & Cleanliness

Palermo is relaxed. This also applies to the clothing. After all, you are in the south and not in Milan. From time to time you might still want it less casual. In the locker of the large bedroom you will find an iron and right next to it a small ironing board.

You like order and cleanliness? Especially during longer stays, you certainly want to wash, clean or vacuum once in a while. You have already discovered the washing machine in the kitchen. In the small bedroom under the bed there should be a clothes horse. It would be great if you could stow it away here after use. The vacuum cleaner, squeegee and detergent are in the small bedroom, in the bottom row of the locker.

Relax & Yoga

You would rather relax. We recommend hammock or yoga. You should find an XL yoga mat in each of the two rooms. You would rather go high up? Then try our climbing rope. But again, you do this at your own risk.

The boxing gloves are more for decoration. - Who wants to fight?

Sustainability

We place great emphasis on sustainability and have taken measures such as solar power generation and storage, heat pumps for heating, drying and cooling, energy-efficient LED lighting, drinking water supply, plastic avoidance, sustainable furniture and building materials as well as a conscious approach to travel, transport and food. Details can be found in our sustainability report.

"Whoever does not want to change anything will also lose what he wants to preserve." - Gustav Heinemann

General note: Please note that for sustainability reasons, the electricity in the apartment is switched off when you are absent. Therefore, especially washing machine and dishwasher can be operated only during your presence. For this reason, extra quiet appliances have been selected.

The likewise energy-efficient gas condensing boiler system is available as a backup solution and is only used in winter.

Bosch induction hob

Here's a quick user guide to get you started:

Induction cooking has many advantages over traditional cooktops. You'll save time cooking and frying, save energy and the maintenance and cleaning will be easier. You'll also have better control over the heat, since it's generated directly in the cookware.

But there are two major differences between a classic ceramic hob and this induction hob:

Induction is much faster. So if you're not careful, something will burn or boil over faster.

Induction only heats when there is a pot on the field. And there is a pot size detection. The surface under the pot is heated only by the waste heat from the pot.

There is a touch control panel on the cooktop. To switch on the cooktop, first place a pot on the cooktop and press lightly on "o". Then select a hob and use '-' or '+' to regulate the desired temperature from 1 to 9.

The residual heat is indicated with an 'H'.

Your cooktop has a child safety lock. To turn it on, turn off the cooktop and then press and hold the "+" and "-" buttons simultaneously for 4 seconds.

If the selected power level flashes, there is no cookware on the cooking zone or the pot is not suitable. In this case, the cooking zone switches off automatically after a certain time.

We hope that this short user guide will help you get started. If you have further questions, you can find more detailed information in the attached PDF user manual. Enjoy cooking on our Bosch induction cooktop!

"By putting away the dishwasher, you can clearly tell who played Tetris or blind cow as a child."

If you are wondering how this fits in with our commitment to sustainability and whether washing dishes by hand would be a more sustainable alternative, we can tell you the following:In terms of sustainability, washing dishes with a dishwasher is usually the more sensible solution. Here are some reasons why:

1. water consumption: Our Bosch dishwasher is designed to significantly reduce water consumption compared to manual dishwashing. It uses efficient water spray resins to thoroughly clean dishes while optimizing water consumption.

2. energy efficiency: dishwashers (including ours) are nowadays more energy efficient than ever before. They have various programs that are tailored to the degree of soiling of the dishes and optimize the energy required accordingly. Plus, many models are equipped with energy-saving features that further reduce power consumption. If you want to be extra mindful, fire up the dishwasher during your siesta. The sun provides ecological energy while you relax.

3. efficiency in dishwashing: Dishwashers allow larger quantities of dishes, cutlery and glasses to be cleaned at the same time. This not only saves time, but also uses less water and energy per unit washed.

4. cleaning result: Dishwashers use special detergents and higher temperatures to thoroughly clean dishes and kill germs. This can ensure better hygiene than manual dishwashing.

However, it is important to use the dishwasher efficiently by only switching it on when fully loaded and selecting energy-efficient programs. This allows the sustainability aspect to be further optimized.

The small streets of the old town of Palermo are often confusing. So that you can still find your way around perfectly, you can simply call up your personal city guide via the QR code in the kitchen.

House rules

In order to restrict you in your well-being and freedom as little as possible, we have deliberately limited our house rules to the essentials. We want you to feel at home here. Therefore we would like to inform you about some important points:

1. live and let live: If you live by this principle, most of it has already been said. We simply assume that you will treat the apartment and the inventory with at least as much care as if it were your own property. Thank you for your understanding.

2. smoke-free zones: The apartment is a total non-smoking area. We kindly ask you to refrain from smoking in the apartment.

Pets: Out of consideration for other guests and possible allergies, pets are not allowed in our apartment. We hope for your understanding.

4. garbage disposal: Unfortunately, Palermo does not currently have a garbage collection system, nor does it have a garbage separation system. You can dispose of the garbage at the provided containers at Porta Sant Agatha. You can find the exact location in the digital city map.

5. maximum number of overnight guests: the allowed number of overnight guests is equal to the booked number, but maximum four persons. Of course, visitors are allowed, but the apartment is not a party location. We ask you for consideration and a quiet atmosphere, especially to keep the nightly peace in the Ballarò district.

6. damage and liability regulation: We would like to point out that in case of damage or loss of items in the apartment, the liability lies with the guest. We will do our best to fix any problems, but would like to point out that within the legal framework there is no liability on the part of the landlord.

We are confident that you understand and respect these points. Should you have any questions or need further information, we are at your disposal. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in maintaining a pleasant stay in our apartment.Digital city map
